Regnbågsfonden now support Casabierta which was formed as a collective of human rights activists in 2013 in San José, Costa Rica.
This initiative arises to provide care and support to the LGBTI population that comes to Costa Rica to seek refuge, due to direct threats, in their homelands, to their lives because of their sexual orientation and/or their political activism in the defense of human rights.
Their mission is to build a communal space that serves as a regional reference training, care, and protection of LGBTI people in Central America.
To achieve this task, Casabierta works with similar organizations in different Central American countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Casabierta determines, in coordination with these organizations, the safest route to Costa Rica for migrants seeking refuge.
